Our Area
Our place has a wide variety of living environments – within a small area we find urban living, commuter estates, country villages, isolated hamlets, farms, and rural spaces. The natural world may be found in town gardens and parks, canal side and country lanes, rivers, hills and woodland.
We work through our different community projects to create a world where we can live in harmony with nature, reduce our impact on the climate, and make life fairer for all. Working together, we are stronger and more effective than on our own and have more fun too!
A sustainable community benefits all of us – with well insulated homes, good transport options, local services and more community activity. We aim to get all sections of our community involved in creating a better living environment for each other, for nature and for the future.
Devon County Council has declared a climate emergency. Their climate declaration encourages organisations to adopt greener ways of operating, The Devon Carbon Plan now provides a route map for us all to work together to make our way of living more sustainable.

Sustainable Tiverton worked with others to develop the Tiverton Neighbourhood plan for our more local area, with new building, local transport and other recommendations to improve our environment and enable people to live healthier more sustainable lives.

We work closely with our local councils and many other organisations concerned with sustainability in our area, so that together we can be more effective. We have support from CAG Devon, which works with many sustainability groups in the area. There are also other transition groups nearby who support each other and sometimes develop partnerships.
